chi is NOT the best flat iron it is however the most popurlar and because of that whenever people want to get a high end flat iron they get this one. Just read the reviews about it (on folica). Its great but MOST if not ALL the bad reviews about it were about its durability. Basically it didn't last too long.
I have a $125 sedu flat iron. But I have also tried solia $80 (I felt it was comprable to chi and sedu) but alot cheaper.
Trust me. If you want your flat iron to last you are going to have to bite the bullet and get a professional flat iron probably in the $50-$80 range will be sufficient. The drug store brands aren't built to last the way that the professional ones are. Just think of it as an investment.
The drug store brands are around $20-$30 but if you have to keep replacing it every couple of months by the time you've bought your second or third one you would've had enough to buy a good professional one.
check sallys. Since they have a 90 day money back on appliances you can try them. If you're still wanting that chi I believe sallys carries a generic CHI for about $50 and you can see for yourself if its comprable to the authentic CHI.

The generic version. Have friends who have both the chi and generic. They never use their chi. Seriously.
