What to do about frizzy hair?

I have horribly frizzy hair. It's naturally curly, and the only two things I can do to keep it from driving me insane is to either tie it back and apply a lot of cream to keep it from turning into a massive brown cottonball in the back, or straighten it. I use a Chi straightening iron and it works really well, but it takes three hours. I really want curly hair, but whenever I leave my hair down, within five minutes, it looks more like a wild mass of random strands than curls. Are there any suggestions on what I could do? Even if they are expensive or a bit time-consuming, that's okay. Thank you for your time.

Try leave-in conditioner and if that doesn't work...try putting in some mayo...sounds disgusting but it works.

AG varnish works great. My sister had the same problem. She uses mouse and a defuser to dry her hair. She scrunches it with the defuser as it's drying. She has to die for curls now and no frizz. She just had to learn what worked for her hair and stop working against it. Hope this helps

Do you shampoo it by piling it all on top of your head? That's a major no-no with hair like yours. Try shampooing your scalp only, if you already don't, and deep condition the rest of your hair. A leave-in conditioner might help too.

Straightening it often might make it frizzy, too, so make sure your hair is well conditioned and in good shape before you do that for long amounts of time. Hope this helped!

Use a good moisturizing shampoo/conditioner (I like Got2B brand) and try frizz-eaze or a gloss serum on your hair. Pommade helps, too.

Dont blowdry your hair, and dont touch it while it is air-drying, that will make it frizz.

I don't know where you live, but if you ever go to NYC, you should make an appointment at a salon called Devashan in Soho (Manhattan). They specialize in curly/frizzy hair. They'll teach you how to manage it to keep it curly but frizz free. They'll probably also want to cut it in a way that the curls fall nice naturally. They have a book called Curly Girl. Maybe you can at least call them and have one shipped to you. It's really freeing not to have to straighten your hair....

i have had the same problem and ppl told me to try so many crazy things. i did find some that work. slightly shorter hare is a good start that is only if you can use more than one binder 3-4 in apart .

Girl!!!!!!!!! I had the same problem not now but used to. I had to keep my hair cut short just to deal with it. I get perms now just for manageability. I only get them maybe once or twice a year. They help with the curls and the straightness. Makes it less time consuming.

I read that towel drying causes frizzies because the terrycloth roughs up the hair cuticle. Try using a jersey knit (like a t-shirt) instead. Also, if you wash your hair at night, sleep on a satin rather than a cotton pillowcase; cotton causes bedhead while satin will not mess your curls.
