I have a different option for ya.

I researched straightening irons last time I was going to buy one and had decided to get a Sedu.I don't live near a mall and there is a Sally close to my house and because I was sort of in a hurry to purchase one I thought I'll try one of theirs and if I don't like it I'll take it back. I bought a Jilbere Tourmaline Series flat iron at Sally. I think it cost around $.69.00 It is GREAT. It also has a range of heat settings.Everyone that uses it says "your hair iron is awesome!" It was probably less than half of what I would have paid for a Sedu or Chi. On a scale of 1 to 10 I'd give it a 10. I really don't think it could do a better job.Do like I did, give it a try, and if you don't like it take it back. Trust me though, you won't take it back.Seriously I LOVE this straightener! Whatever brand you choose, make sure it's a tourmaline straightener. They are far less damaging to your hair. God bless!!

i just want to warn you that all flat irons are somehow damaging to hair but a chi flat iron has ceramic coated plates, not ceramic ones, so the coating could peel leaving plates that are even more damaging to your hair. you should look for a straightener with ceramic plates, not ceramic coated... it may be more $ but it would be worth it more than $100 for a not so great chi straightener.

It depends on how slow or fast you work with them. I have these at home and to straighten my hair I pull them down quickly a few times. When I want to curl or create waves I twist them and wait for long or short periods of time depending on how strong a hold you want. The good thing about this iron is that it stays for a while without damage. I use it and my friends use it and it's been with us for one year and it still works perfectly fine. I also love that it heats up so quickly in a matter of seconds and is shaped for easy handling. As for hair damage, spray heat resistance products on your hair before you use the irons. Also never iron hair that is not almost completely dry. After spraying wait a bit then go for the iron. In that way, an iron is less damagin than a blow dryer.
