ok theres this girl at my school whose hair i adore. its long and the very tips of her hair are perfectly curled while her roots are stick straight. i want to copy this is there a certain curling iron i should use? also my hair is naturally curly so i straighten it with a flat iron (its a chi). and then i use my own curling iron on it which just makes it wavy. i try not to put the curling iron right on the ends of my hair too much b/c im afraid itll damage it. but the girl at my school looks like she does just that. will doing all this styling damage my hair really badly?

You don't mention how long your hair is but if it's shoulder length or longer you can set it on large hot rollers and it will give you body and curl just the ends.

when you straighten it with the flat iron, go to the ends and turn your hand at the wrist. you can do this all in one swoop for each section of hair you straighten.

If you want to invest in a good curling iron go with CHI. They kick major butt! Oh I see above you use a CHI flat iron...good girl (cosmetologist here so I swear by CHI). You're absolutely right leaving the iron too long on your ends will damage them. Try a lightweight hairspray for hold (I hate heavy ones as it weighs hair down)...Wella, Biolage, Aquage products. Spray it on before each section you curl. No olden days of spraying the hair while it is wound onto the curling iron...big no no. When you spray put a little extra on the ends...this should do the trick!! Hope this helps:)

-Divide your hair into thin sections ans spray each section with curl activator like TREsemme curl activator.

-Using a hot large barrel hot curling iron, curl each section half way up and repeat until your full hair is done.
